Slowly but shirley : )

So i finished putting the tabs and grids on them (all 26 of them) : 0
now I just have to put the streets and stuff and make an index (although i'm still debating whether or not to even include an index).

developing brownie 620 pan film

DISASTER! There is no notches on the side of the film to get it into the spool, so i tried just guiding it in and it overlapped in so many places there wasn't really a single image that came out right... grrrr

LBMA

I went to the Long Beach Museum of Art last week to see the sweet submersives drawing show. It was pretty amazing. In particular there was this one piece that caught my attention the most. It didn't have the dimensions posted but it had to be about 18 feet by 4 feet. It took up a whole wall of the museum and was definitely the most crowded to try to see. It was a jungle scene with a whole bunch of animals, but some of them had human features. You had to really stare at it to realize the little quircks that were out of place. The artist did the entire piece in graphite pencil and it was just incredible. Ive been trying to find a picture of it but no luck yet so ill post one when I find it. : )

In Progress : )

I still need to add the text, but at least Ive got the thomas guide lines and sides down : )

Where am I?!

I don't know where I am with my project! lol. I guess I'm in the progress of making my photos come to life in a thomas guide sense... I shot my images already, now it's just trying to make them three dimensional and then putting the information on them like the lines and the places. Once I have that part done I can start binding them together to make it look 'Thomas Guide inspired'. At first I wanted to make my work look like an actual thomas guide and replicate it almost to the tee, but the more i've been thinking about it the more I want to make it my own with a little more originality involved. The one thing I am having the most trouble with is how I want to lay the text in there, and whether I want the map to have the names of actual places, mythical places or comical places. Any ideas? : )

William Merrill Gallery

Over the weekend I went down to Laguna to take some photos for my simulacra project, and I came across one of the many galleries in Laguna. The William Merrill Gallery had a good show goin on. I was gonna walk rite past it because my parking meter was running out of time, but i saw some pretty amazing sculptures, so i decided it was worth it to spend just a few minutes in there. Needless to say I ended up spending over 30 minutes in there, and then i got to talkin with the person who worked there and she was tellin me about all the artists they support. I loved it! and to top it off i didn't get a parking ticket! yay! haha
Jane Burton was my favorite : )

Thomas Guide

For my next piece I'm thinking I want to make a thomas guide using images that I took that look like elaborate landscapes, but in reality they are a simple organic material. I want to take this idea to the extreme and make an actual mock Thomas Guide.
