Digital Imagery Project Idea

I am strongly considering making my piece 3-Dimensional, so when you physically move your body around the piece, it changes. Not sure how I'm gonna accomplish this yet, but I really want to attempt it.

Frustrated

I stayed up about 2 hours later than I wanted to last night because I couldn't stop thinking about ideas for my digital imagery project. All these ideas just came to me one right after another, and I even started thinking about another project I want to get started on. It's a good thing but.. I like to sleep too.. ha.

Mark Allen

I went to see Mark Allen's lecture on Wednesday. It was mostly about the work going on @ Machine project, which is his alternative space. The piece that I was most interested in was an interactive poetry reading. At Machine Project, they created a space under the floorboards where two poets were, and in the middle of the floorboards was a cone-shaped listening device which one of the viewers would write a word on a slip of paper and slip it through the floorboards. The poets then came up with a poem and read it into the cone, however the viewer would have to physically lay down on the floor to listen to it. Looking at the photos of it was amazing and halarious! : )

Where The Wild Things Are!

Honestly one of the best movies i've seen, especially since i've been pretty disappointed in the new releases lately. My 9 year old cousin saw the movie too and she said she didn't like it at all. Thats interesting how this very popular children's book was made into a movie that wasn't made for kids at all. I really enjoyed the movie though. Amazingly artistic : )

Ascender

very visually pleasing and disturbing at the same time : )

I love it!

Laurie Simmons

In my experimental class we looked at an artist who works with puppets and odd ways of interpreting everyday things and putting legs on them. It's not exactly my cup of tea but she also did a film with Merill Streep in it and I liked that piece more than anything else she did. Most of the video was just people prancing around with cameras and other things on the top half of their body.. it was a little eerie to be honest.. it kinda freaked me out haha

Trailer Park Boys

My brother Jorge made me watch this low budget show called "Trailer Park Boys" the other day and I really recommend it. It has this weird, stupid funny humor to it but it got my attention and I stayed up til like 3am watchin this stupid show haha.

Project 1

Project Name: Identity
Project Description: My work will be a portrait style piece (square in shape). It will contain fragments and misrepresentations of the human face.
Conceptual Concerns: My idea behind this project is to get myself (as an artist) out there to try new things and new media. So far working with color film in itself has been different for me. I will be configuring the faces of siblings by rearranging their features. With this I am hoping to make some eerie comparisons.
Technical Skills: I will have to work with a lot of mediums that I am not used too familiar with, including color film and negative scanning, and working with photoshop to try and configure the faces together which I am never attempted. I also want this piece printed at a large scale which will hopefully add clarity and wonder to the piece.
Formal Guidelines:
Medium: Photograph (inkjet)
Size: 30" x 30"
Quantity: 1 (with 4 photos)
Presentation: Grid format
Artistic References:
Gordon Magnin

Marty Coleman

Readings
:
The Human Face (60 min. documentary) 1991

Ralph Steadman - America
Goals List:
Different understandings and views of portrait photography
To interpret facial structures in a different way
To observe the differences and similarities of facial structures between siblings
To have a better understanding of photoshop tools
To acquire comfort in printing at a large scale
